Liquid Crystals

Opsec Security’s liquid crystal technology is the culmination of over 20 years of R&D. OpSec has harnessed the special optical properties of the liquid crystal to create a range of highly specialized OVD security products that provide overt, covert and forensic protection into a single customized security image.

Advantage™ is a well established liquid crystal optical security device based on OpSec’s proprietary chemistry and coating methods. It is available in a variety of constructions for multiple delivery systems, providing excellent optical authentication and tamper evidence. Advantage™ can be customized to any customer design or logo.

Unlike other OVD’s, Advantage™ has three unique optical characteristics. In normal lighting conditions, both daylight and artificial, the image appears green to orange, depending on the viewing angle. Head-on, the image is transparent, allowing it to be placed directly over sensitive information.

This unique tri-modal color-shift technology is easily verified yet cannot be reproduced by even the most sophisticated duplication technology such as printing, photography or color photocopy. In more that 20 years of use worldwide, Advantage has defied all efforts at duplication.

SecurMAX™ represents OpSec’s latest liquid crystal development. It is based on newly developed and patent-protected chemistry and new coating methods. SecurMAX has unique multi-color and polarizing qualities which result in the image having various effects when viewed at different angles. The security feature retains a highly transparent mode allowing it to protect printed or photographic data without affecting visibility. The optical appearance is quite distinct and can make use of the entire color spectrum. In addition, the starting point color is also custom selectable. The reflected primary color has a high degree of metallic luster, whilst a secondary transmitted color can be used to provide an effective optical watermark.

The optical characteristics of SecurMAX can be specifically tailored to provide defined covert and forensic fingerprints that provide high levels of security and authenticity. SecurMAX has a simple on/off verification feature which provides level two, covert security protection. When the feature is seen through the polarized lens of the SecurMAX Viewer, one filter will show all its color effects while the other will completely conceal it, appearing invisible. This feature is substrate dependant.

SecurMAX is designed specifically to be very thin film. This allows it to be readily incorporated into transfer films as well as OpSec’s standard range of security laminates, labels and cards. The thin structure provides exceptional tamper evidence and resistance to alteration. As a result, SecurMAX™ is suitable for inclusion in newer forms of transfer foil for passport and identity document applications.
